FAQ

For the most part, whatever you’ve got, we’re happy to give it a try!

We tend to spend most of our time on simple household electricals – lamps, coffee makers, air conditioners, things like that – but we’ve successfully fixed everything from power sanders to karaoke machines.

With complex electronics like video game consoles, digital cameras, smartphones, etc, we generally suggest you approach a more specialist service, but depending on the problem we’re happy to give it a try.

There aren’t a lot of hard and fast rules. We can’t take anything too big or heavy to be safely moved around by one person. We obviously won’t work on anything illegal or highly dangerous (weapons, anything with the potential to be explosive). And the workshop ventilation won’t keep up with anything petrol-powered, so we’ll have to turn those down too for now.

Other than that, we might reject things if our initial conversation with you or our first look at the item tells us it’s unsafe to work on or won’t be possible to fix in a reasonable amount of time.

We use zero-emissions transport options wherever possible. In Edinburgh, your items will be picked up by our logistics partner CADi using a cargo bicycle. In Falkirk, you can drop off items at the Polmont Community Hub, and they’ll be taken from there to our workshop in an electric van.

It’s unusual, but it’s been known to happen – sometimes we’ll fix an item and it breaks again soon after it’s put back into use. This might be because the cause of the problem was something deeper and more serious than we originally thought, or because a replacement part didn’t fit quite right – or it might just be a coincidence.

Please get in touch by email and let us know if this happens. Include a photo or video of the problem if you can. At our discretion, if it looks like the same problem we thought we’d fixed, we’ll either take another shot at the repair with no further fees, or refund the repair fee you’ve already paid.
